Veleka Beach is among the most picturesque beaches on the Bulgarian Southern Black Sea Coast. It is located in the northern part of the village of Sinemorets at the confluence of the Veleka River into the Black Sea. The beach is huge and there is enough space for everyone. The landscape is beautiful – completely natural and without concrete. However, the bay is quite deep. You enter the sea, take two steps and you no longer step on the bottom.

On the beach you can rent a kayak or a surfboard and ride along the river. The feeling of kayaking on Veleka River is magnificent – the views from this angle are different and extremely beautiful, in addition, the movement invigorates and energizes.
The Veleka River adds greatly to the beach’s unique charm. It is the largest and longest river in Strandzha. It rises on Turkish territory, but most of it is located in Bulgaria. Veleka Beach is part of the “Mouth of Veleka” protected area. A branch of the largest bird migration route in Eastern Europe – Via Pontica – passes above it.
Our first visit was a few years ago. We were staying in Ahtopol, but on one of the days of our vacation we decided to go to Veleka Beach. My first impression of it was wonderful – a great sea-river landscape with lush green vegetation along the river and people, lots of people. At first I was very surprised why only a small number of people were swimming in the sea, but when I went in and saw how deep it was right up to the shore, it got clear. There were also quite a few people on the beach bathing in the Veleka River behind the beach.

Where is it and how to get to Veleka Beach
Veleka Beach is located on the northern outskirts of the village of Sinemorets, Burgas region. If you are staying in the village, you can walk to the beach – it is located less than a kilometer from the main street. You can also get to the beach by car. Several dirt roads lead to it, one of which separates from the road just before the turnoff to Sinemorets, and the others are continuations of streets in the village.
Just above the beach there is a large area designated as a parking lot.

Final thoughts
From the first time I visited, Veleka Beach was one of my favorite beaches on the Southern Black Sea Coast because of its picturesque landscape without concrete. On that first visit, we rented kayaks and went quite far along the river with them. It was interesting and very beautiful, the only issue I had were mosquitoes, but even they were a part of the landscape 🙂 .
