About me and the blog Bulgaria travel vibes
Thank you for being here and I’m glad you want to learn more about me and the blog!
My name is Elena Ivanova, but almost everyone calls me Eli. I am a mathematician by education, a programmer by profession, and an avid tourist by spirit. I love to travel. In the last 15+ years, and even before that, I have discovered and rediscovered so many beautiful places here in Bulgaria. We have truly beautiful nature and interesting places.
In short, I am:
- the creator of the blog Друми в думи, which over the years has become one of the most visited tourism and travel sites in Bulgaria;
- author of over 600 articles on tourism topics and 5 guidebooks, published by the publishing house “Siela”;
- co-founder and long-time chairman of the Association of Travel Bloggers in Bulgaria (ASTOM);
- member of the jury in several tourism competitions;
- winner in the category “Most interesting tourist publications” for 2020 in the “Read and travel” competition within the framework of the tourist exhibition “Cultural tourism” – Veliko Tarnovo.
Education and professional field
I graduated in mathematics from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, then for some time I worked as a research associate in the field of Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies at one of the institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. During my years at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, I was fortunate to participate in interesting and diverse projects, both Bulgarian and international.
I have been away from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for a long time, but my interest in “research” has not changed. Now I am involved in various web-related projects and run a small company.
Personal interests
I like authentic places, be they natural landmarks or historical sites that have been preserved “from time immemorial” without much outside intervention, because they are interesting and curious to me. I admire the creations of nature – waterfalls, rivers, lakes, mountains, rock formations. Many places can make a person hold their breath before their natural beauty. I also find it interesting when I can touch something that existed a very long time ago.
These wonderful places are something very different from the concrete and urban environment in which I live and the touch with the authentic makes my everyday life different, definitely helps reduce stress, and is also associated with a lot of movement, which multiplies the aforementioned effects.
About the blog
I created the blog Друми в думи with one main intention – to provide useful and quality information about the places in Bulgaria that I visit. I describe them as I have seen them through my own eyes. I also try to offer interesting ideas for walks and excursions. And last but not least, I want to promote, as best I can, the many beautiful places in Bulgaria.
As a next stage I created this blog Bulgaria travel vibes in English so that I a lot more people all over the world can read about my beautiful country Bulgaria.
