The 13 top tourist places to visit in Silistra, Bulgaria

Silistra is a beautiful city on the river bank of the lower Danube. It is a port city that is the administrative center of the Silistra Province, Bulgaria. I’ve been several times to the region. Let me share with you the best things to do in Silistra and nearby and the most interesting sites to visit.

I first visited Silistra more than 10 years ago. Then, we were returning from the Black sea to Sofia and to make it more interesting, we decided to turn towards Silistra. The time we had was not much – one evening and one day, but despite that, we managed to walk around and get an impression of the city. We even managed to see all the places we had marked out in advance and realized that there was still a lot to see.

Before my first visit in Silistra, I had only associated it with the Danube River. But since then I’ve known that this is a city with a very ancient history, which has preserved significant remains from the time of Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, Slavs and Bulgarians.

Iglika eco-trail near the city of Gabrovo

If you happen to go to the region of Gabrovo, Dryanovo, or Veliko Tarnovo, and you want to walk on an easy path with nice views, I recommend you the Iglika eco-path (iglika means primrose). Its route is just that, it is suitable for people of all ages and can be visited in any season of the year. We were there in the second half of this March, on a sunny but quite windy day. Despite the wind, which tried to move me from time to time, I was very impressed by the walk.

Mandritsa: the Albanian village in the Rhodopes, Bulgaria

Mandritsa is quite a small village in Eastern Rhodopes. We went there during the first day of our Rhodope adventure, which we called “The Rhodope Highway”. We were full of energy and thirsty for sights and new experiences.

The Black Rock in Rila Mountains – a colorful and pleasant autumn walk

On this so sunny Sunday in the mid November we headed to Rila Mountains after more than a month at home. The walk was quite short and leisurely, to the Black Rock, but we still managed to see and feel the charm of the golden autumn. After a month of forced sitting, I felt free and at ease in the fresh embrace of the mountain. I wanted to absorb every sight, every smell, every breath that day.

The Beli Iskar Eco Trail is a very good idea for a walk near Sofia.

Some time ago I told you that the eco-trail White River is one of the best made eco-trails I have walked till now. Ancient Thracian tomb in Pomorie

Over 15,000 Thracian tombs have been discovered in Bulgaria. The Thracian tomb near Pomorie is one of the largest.

I spent so many summer days near Pomorie as a child, but at that time I had no idea about the so interesting Thracian domed tomb located there… Some time ago I came across a post about the tomb and after a while I visited that amazing place. Although the temple is little-known, the access to it is quite easy and convenient. You can get there by car.
